VR Experience Zone at Invisibellas Street Art Project at Bengal Art Lounge
Global Shapers, Dhaka Hub presents . “InvisiBellas”. A street-art project that aims to shed light on the social position of women. The InvisaBellas are everyday heroins that are overlooked, unheard, uncounted, spoken for, told what to think, say and do, like children or pets. The desire was to applaud and praise these women, to raise our voices against violators and perpetrators and to break the wall of restrictive social norms. How? With the very essence of the feminine – creative force!
The participating artists have selected a number of pressing gender issues. These include: the neglect of household help; the unique role of female Garo beauticians in urban beauty parlours; the objectification and vulgar portrayal of women in the film industry; the enforced silence that women are expected to accept along with their passive role in society and family; child marriage; the docile and unappreciated image of the mother.
It is a initiative, sought to touch on issues that are ignored and under-rug-swept, hoping to demonstrate how women are, unwittingly and intentionally, dismissed and taken for granted on a daily basis. The idea was to bring these concerns to public attention, to as wide an audience as possible, which is why the venue is the street. For real change to happen we must involve people of all walks of life. The InvisiBellas is a positive movement towards a society that celebrates instead of disregards, empowers instead of belittles, praises instead of insults. A society where women are able to think and speak freely, is a society with a future.
On the 5th and 6th of March 2016 upcoming and young artists in Dhaka got together to brighten up the neighborhood of Notun Bazar which primarily houses house hold helpers and factory laborers where discrimination and violence act against women is prevalent. Through this work of Art and play during the two days, artists and volunteers interacted with the women and children in the community engaging them into thoughts and exercises that wouldn’t just brighten up their state of minds but also empower them in the long vision.
Questco360 was partnered with Bengal Art Lounge to install and run a VR Experience Zone during the final exhibition at the Art Lounge to give audiences an immersed experience of the Invisibella Street-Art Project at Notun Bazar with Google Business View photography service. Apart from Installed VR headsets audiences could also their personal devices to access location on Google Maps to view the stretch artworks and its neighborhood.
